In 1943 I became
hooked on Christian Apologetics by a series of articles that
came out in the Sunday newspaper. I looked forward to each
article with great anticipation, not knowing at the time that
they would have such an impact upon my life, a life devoted to
preaching the gospel of Christ over a long 56 year ministry.
Those articles
were entitled, "The Faith of Great Scientists". Let me share a
great scientific discovery that gave me complete confidence that
the Bible truly is the word of God. An astronomer shared that in
the oldest book of the Bible, Job, was a statement made that no
human could ever have known. Only the Creator could make such a
declaration. In Job, chapter 38 and verse 32 of the King James
Version, God asks Job if he was able to "guide Arcturus", one of
the brightest stars in the sky. What impressed him was that with
our largest telescope, scientists discovered that Arcturus
travels at such a tremendous speed that astronomers nick named
it "the run-a-way star of our galaxy". Think about it. Only God
could have known such a fact. Now consider this. Did you ever
try to count the stars above? With the naked eye you might be
able to see a thousand or so. But look through a powerful
telescope and you'll discover millions of stars in one galaxy
and millions of galaxies alone. Therefore, the Bible is totally
accurate when it compares the "stars of heaven to sands of the
sea". They are innumerable! And for centuries men scoffed at the
Bible for making such a comparison!
Ralph Eichelberger saw an email in 2003 that
Featherstone Camp burned in the Cedar Fire. He flew to San Diego
to investigate and then decided to do something about it by
organizing teams of workers to also help rebuild our camp. He
inspired three teams from Ohio, totaling 51, to come and spend a
week at Featherstone, getting big blisters on hands and muscles
terribly sore. Each one paid $500 for food and air fare out of
their own pocket. God bless em!
